History Originally built as a private dwelling for a Falmouth Sea Captain in 1850, The Grove Hotel has since had many Sea Captains at its helm until 1920 when the Gibbons family bought it. Three generations of the Gibbons family lived at The Grove Falmouth until 1999, running it as a guest house, when Geoff and Sian fell in love with it and fulfilled a lifelong dream of returning to Cornwall and living by the sea.
With panoramic views across the maritime museum and the sound, The Grove Hotel stands proudly beside the founding family of Falmouth’s house, the oldest dwelling in Falmouth, the Elizabethan manor of the Killigrew’s, Arwenack House. You can still see some of the original 17th and 18th Century cottages from the street and the bedrooms on this side of The Grove affords guests one of the most breath-taking views of their private gardens. If you listen very carefully, it is said that you can hear Lady Killigrew’s ghost walking the corridors of the hotel, looking for a vulnerable young cabin boy! There have been several sightings up to 2008. Background Cornish born Sian Cumins and her husband Geoff have realised a lifelong dream by moving to Cornwall and opening a hotel. The daughter of a Chaplain to the Mission for Seafarers in Falmouth, Sian has sailing and maritime history in her blood as she watched her father bless boats, perform wedding ceremony’s and christenings for the local sailors. Having met and married Geoff who was working in London, they both realised that an exciting life awaited them and their family in Cornwall. Says Geoff, " It's inspiring to wake up and breathe in the fresh, ocean air. Cornwall is beautiful and unspoilt and Cornish people are friendly and uncomplicated" To Make an Online Booking Please Click Here 05/07/2008 |
